We visited two partner schools and brought an unforgettable drone exploration experience to about 40 students.
The mission of Sky Explorers is to inspire, educate, and empower students with special educational needs (SEN) from local mainstream primary schools and underserved communities, enabling them to meaningfully engage in STEM and AI learning. We design high-quality, SEN-oriented STEM & AI curricula and work closely with frontline educators to bring these experiences to marginalized SEN students, helping them broaden their learning horizons and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the latest technology education.
Through a progressive curriculum model, Sky Explorers first collaborates with school teachers, parents/guardians, and the SEN students themselves to understand each student’s learning characteristics. Guided by Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and evidence-based Executive Function (EF) scaffolds, these insights are translated into differentiated teaching routines, visual supports, and task structures to remove barriers to participation.
Based on the needs assessment, we recruit approximately 40 students from partner schools, design and implement two structured sessions, and gradually guide students through hands-on drone learning in an inclusive, equitable, and SEN-friendly environment.
Includes activity photos, downloadable lesson plans, student work, video highlights, and survey results.
Scalable and reusable STEM education modules that support future curriculum development and policy formulation.
Lay the foundation for subsequent community STEM education activities and innovation and technology competitions.
Understand the basic structure of the drone, the DroneBlock programming environment, flight principles (Yaw, Pitch, Roll), and learn about the body components and battery installation.
Learn the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department's regulations for small unmanned aircraft (under 448g), understand no-fly zones (airports, border areas, military facilities, etc.), and use the eSUA drone map.
Learn basic flight commands (takeoff, landing, forward, rotate) through the DroneBlocks programming interface, and understand programming logic and flight path planning.
Complete designated flight routes (including a square flight path, 8D flips, and 360° rotation), and control the drone through coding to precisely land on a target area.

After the event concluded, we presented commemorative gifts to the teachers and school leaders to express our gratitude for their strong support and cooperation. Student representatives also joined in taking a group photo to capture this warm moment.
